Following the heavy rainfall that occurred from the 26th to the 28th of August 2022. It leads to Flash floods and mudslide that resulted in deaths of people and leaving of many Sierra Leoneans homeless, this ultimately leads to psychological and emotional difficulties among those affected.
The situation attracted the intervention of Social Workers Sierra Leone (SWSL) to activate community-based-psychosocial support to help those who were impacted by the flash flood in various communities. Social workers were deployed by Social Workers Sierra Leone to render emotional support at different sections within the affected communities.
Our operations on the ground ranging from providing emotional support to affected households and conducting assessments to identify their level of needs.
At present the families affected are going through a lot and those who lost their homes are currently sleeping to their neighbors. Apart from losing their shelters they also encounter other challenges such as lack of clothing, food among others. However, the current situation at the moment flood survivors and affected families are building resilient but there is still need for continuous emotional support and to meet their basic immediate needs.
Thus, as an organization we are looking forward for support in other to help meet their needs and to provide continuous emotional support to affected families in these communities.
