Meet Marnel Breure, a journalist and researcher from The Netherlands who is currently in Freetown on a research assignment on poverty. When she discovered about our work on food insecurity face by homeless people, due to poverty and lack of welfare support. Because of this, we intervened to care for them.

The food is ready for Distribution

Marnel, showed up in the office very determined during the time when the team set to go out to serve lunch.  Firstly, she signed the volunteer registration form and supported the team with packing the meals. There were 80 meals available which is the least we have ever prepared due to donation constraints.  She joined the rest of other volunteers, fifteen in number including her and walk along the central business district of Freetown where majority of homeless people are converging.

Marnel and a Service User

According to Marnel, this is a right thing to do for such people. “ I find it very encouraging that Freetown residents are willing to volunteer for the benefit of the underprivileged and the vulnerable. I consider that an act of humanity, solidarity and mercy”. She further promised to be volunteering whenever she has free time.
