As required professionally, a social worker connects people with resources based on their identified needs, particularly when working with persons with disabilities (PWD) to get the necessary support for them to enjoy a normal life.
The complete opposite, the pain we endure as a social worker in trying to help our fellow citizens in a difficult situation is significant.
The fragmented systems and lack of recognition of social workers in national development undermines the profession and leads to the further deterioration of people.
We keep receiving concerns and cries for basic wheelchairs, medical assistance among other essential human needs from our homeless family members. Every Sunday, the concerns and the problems remain. In order to maintain our relationship and trust. We discovered using healthy jokes and humour works but sadly the problem (s) never disappeared. Thanks to Marnel, in February, she helped us raise funds to support a few people: 3 in total with wheelchairs, one individual with medical support and help towards the weekly food preparation.
There are more people in need of wheelchairs and medical support. Based on our observation, 7 out of 10 people experiencing homelessness are PWDs.
We are looking for a local or international organization (s) that has access to wheelchairs to partner with us to help address the cry for wheelchairs among PWD.
For individuals who want to help – a donation of $70 can help us secure one wheelchair including coordination.
Please note: Even though the jokes works to develop the relationship and make people smile, solving the problem remains our goal. Let’s help to reduce the suffering of people with disabilities and who’re experiencing homelessness.
